Following a recently concluded competitive tender process, News UK ihas announced it has renewed its commercial partnership with Smiths News, part of Connect Group PLC.

Smiths News will continue to distribute News UK’s newspaper titles – including The Sun, The Times and The Sunday Times – within the existing UK territories that it currently serves, until July 2024.

Furthermore, in order to ensure that retailers and customers across the whole of the UK continue to have access to News UK’s titles, News UK is progressing positively with a solution to ensure coverage for the remaining territories.

News UK says it is committed to ensuring that its distribution channels are robust and resilient and that, accordingly, long-term continuity of supply to retailers throughout the UK is guaranteed.

Chris Longcroft, chief financial officer, commented: “This renewal of our long-standing partnership with Smiths News is an important step in securing the future distribution of our titles across the UK. We have faith in Smiths News to deliver for the long-term, and the commercial terms of our new agreement will reflect this long-term commitment.

“In relation to the areas of the UK that are not covered by this new agreement, we are confident that we will soon be in a position to announce our chosen partner for those areas and in doing so bring long-term stability and commitment to this market. We remain committed to guaranteeing supply to retailers across the whole of the UK.”
